How to find the right package for your saws on our website
FAQ1 - Must I replace my existing bar on my saws to run your chain?
Well actually your existing bar will be fine if the groove is not too worn or distorted.
But if you don't know how to maintain a bar (smoothing edges and using a Vise to straighten bulges in the groove) then a new bar would be a good idea.
FAQ2 - What size is my chain?
To size your chains use the measurements shown on your previous chain box or invoice.
Pitch .325 or 3/8?
Gauge .043 1.1mm, .050 1.3mm, .058 1.5mm .063 1.6mm?
Drive links (DL): Count the number of cutters in your last chain and multiply that by 2
Some chains have an odd number of drive links, those chains will have a larger gap with 2 joiner links between 1 pair of the cutters.
FAQ How to count the cutters accurately?
The best way to count the cutters on a chain is to take it off the saw.
Hold the chain in your left hand and line up 2 cutters at the top so you can count them in pairs.
Then count with your right hand touching the links as you count them.
2-4-6 etc. If there's an odd cutter at the bottom, then add that in.
Example1: a chain for a Stihl MS291 will have 37 cutters and that doubles to come out at 74 Drive Links.
(odd number of cutters 37 Cutters x2=74 Drive links)
You would have counted 18 pairs for 36 and had an odd cuttter at the bottom.
Example2: A chain for a Stihl MS180 has 27 cutters but has a gap with 2 joiner links.
(odd number of cutters at 27 and odd number of Drive links at 55 - 27x2=54 +1 for the extra joiner)

FAQ I cannot find my chain size on your website, too many sizes to sift through?
Once you know the sizing of your chain (using info above) the quickest way to find it is to:
1 Go to our website main page www.toughmax.com.au
2 Click on the search magnifying glass and type in the number of drive links like this example "74DL"
You could add a space and add the gauge and pitch to the search criteria to narrow it down further.
3 Take note of sizing information in the title, sometimes there are multiple sized chains that have the same number of Drive links (DL).
Hope that helps.
