Website Update: How I Lost the “Enterprise” and Why the Site Was Down for 24 Hours
It’s been an interesting week.
We’ve been working hard to improve this website so you can search for products more easily and find the exact chain or part you need. But on Monday morning, things took a turn — and the entire site went down for almost 24 hours.
What Happened
I hired someone for one hour of paid work to look at a new website theme and tell me what they could improve. A theme controls how the website looks and how you move around it — including how you’re reading this post right now.
Within that hour, it became clear the person actually knew less about themes than I did. After 45 minutes, I told him it wasn’t going to work out.
That’s when the trouble started.
He asked to be paid again.
I asked, “For what? You were already paid for more time than you worked.”
His only reply was, “Hmm.”
The Next Morning
After a full day of work outside, I came back the next morning, loaded the website… and everything was gone.
All theme files.
All backups.
All videos.
All pictures.
All help articles.
Even the new theme we’d been building — the one I’d nicknamed “Enterprise.”
The whole site looked like one of those old “Under Construction” pages from the 90s.
The Good News
Thankfully, I had saved a copy of the current theme offline. After two hours of work, the website was back online.
But the new Enterprise theme?
Gone.
And unlike the starship, this one didn’t make it back.
What’s Next
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be rebuilding the help articles, videos, and the new "Enterprise" theme from scratch. The updated theme will have much better search and filtering, making it easier for you to find the right products for your saw.
